Embracing Uncertainty: A Foundational Principle in Our Christian Journey

Sunday I preached on how Embracing Uncertainty is “A Foundational Principle in Our Christian Journey”.

As followers of Jesus here in Austin Texas, we're absolutely called to walk by faith, not by sight in this dark culture. Uncertainty is a natural part of our journey in the Kingdom of God, and rather than fearing it, we are encouraged to embrace it as an essential attribute of our Christian life. In 2 Timothy 1:7, we find a powerful reminder that God has not given us a spirit of fear but of power, love, and a sound mind. Embracing uncertainty is an act of trust, faith, and surrender to God's perfect plan for our lives.

I’m thankful to be part of a church near me in Austin that is passionate about being a Christian Church that walks out our values all week long. Living a non-conformist lifestyle means accepting the uncertainty that comes with it.

I’ve given some of the main points below from my sermon today that I hope will help you take your next step with God. I’ve also included the SERMON LINK if you want to watch the full message. I hope these bless and strengthen you.

WHAT EXACTLY IS EMBRACING UNCERTAINTY?

  • Embracing Uncertainty: Trusting in God's Sovereignty

Embracing Uncertainty in the Kingdom of God involves letting go of the need for absolute certainty and being comfortable with ambiguity. It requires a shift in perspective, viewing God’s leading as our command, God’s way as the only way, and uncertainty as a reality we don’t have to stress about.

Life is unpredictable, and the future remains unknown to us. Yet, in the Kingdom of God, we find comfort in acknowledging that our lives are securely in His hands. Instead of fearing uncertainty, we learn to listen to the voice of the Holy Spirit, guiding us through each twist and turn of our journey. Our trust in God's control replaces anxiety with peace, and we rest assured that He is leading us on a path designed specifically for us.

In uncertain times, we lean on the truth found in Proverbs 3:5-6, "Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways submit to him, and he will make your paths straight." Embracing uncertainty means surrendering our desire for total control and humbly trusting in God's unfailing wisdom and love.

  • Embracing Uncertainty: Finding Comfort in Ambiguity

Embracing Uncertainty in the Kingdom of God involves acknowledging that our life is inherently unpredictable and that the future is in God’s control. It means that instead of resisting or fearing uncertainty, we learn to listen to the voice of Holy Spirit and navigate each day with faith and trust in His leading.

As Christians, we often crave clear answers and absolute certainty. However, embracing uncertainty means letting go of the need for perfect clarity and being comfortable with ambiguity. We recognize that God's ways are higher than our ways (Isaiah 55:9), and we trust that His leading is our command.

When we release the need for total understanding, we open ourselves to a deeper level of faith. Instead of fretting over the unknown, we rest in the assurance that God is in control, and His plans for us are always good (Jeremiah 29:11). Embracing uncertainty empowers us to live boldly, knowing that our lives are directed by the loving hands of our Heavenly Father.

  • Embracing Uncertainty: Cultivating Faith and Resilience

Embracing Uncertainty in the Kingdom of God activates faith and trust in God first, accelerating personal growth and spiritual self-awareness. It encourages us to address our fears and limitations, confront the unknown with courage and faith, and develop resilience in the face of uncertainty.

Uncertainty can be a catalyst for growth and spiritual self-awareness. When we embrace uncertainty in the Kingdom of God, we activate our faith and trust in Him, which in turn accelerates personal growth. In times of uncertainty, we have the opportunity to address our fears and limitations, confront the unknown with courage and faith, and develop resilience in the face of uncertainty.

In James 1:2-4, we are encouraged to "consider it pure joy... whenever you face trials of many kinds because you know that the testing of your faith produces perseverance." Embracing uncertainty leads us to a deeper reliance on God's strength, growing in our faith and character.

WE HAVE TO CHOOSE…

At the end of the day, we have to decide if we are going to Embrace Uncertainty or not. It is not an easy feat, but as followers of Jesus, it is an essential attribute of our Christian life. In the Kingdom of God, we find peace by trusting in His sovereignty and letting go of the need for absolute certainty. Through embracing uncertainty, we cultivate faith, trust, and resilience, knowing that God's perfect plan for us unfolds with each step we take in faith.

So, my hope is you will embrace the uncertainties of life with hearts full of trust and surrender, knowing that God holds the future in His hands. Let’s make a decision to navigate each day with faith, guided by the voice of the Holy Spirit, and find comfort in the ambiguity, for God's ways are higher, and His love for us is unwavering. For some this will mean connecting with a Christian Church near them, others it will mean being a light in a dark work environment, and others it could be finances, faith, health, or whatever… but each of us has some next steps to take in living out a life that Embraces Uncertainty.

My prayer is that we all grow in faith by trusting in the One who holds our lives and our future and may our journey in embracing uncertainty lead us closer to the heart of our Heavenly Father.
