The Power of a Legacy Minded Church
As followers of Jesus, we are called to look at things in a different way, we call this Kingdom thinking.
A Godly perspective will shape eternal outcomes, so let's embrace Kingdom thinking!
Jesus said it this way:
“Do not store up for yourselves treasures on earth… but store up for yourselves treasures in heaven.” — Matthew 6:19–20
The moment we realize that every act of generosity, every step of obedience, every sacrifice for the sake of God’s Kingdom has eternal value—that’s when life truly begins to make sense.
Legacy isn’t complicated.
For us, it means giving in ways that build God’s Kingdom, discipling people who will disciple others, and planting seeds that will continue to bear fruit long after we’re gone.
Everyone leaves something behind. Some leave possessions. Others leave problems. But legacy people leave impact.
When we catch that heart, our giving stops feeling like loss and starts looking like planting.
A legacy-minded church is full of people who see their lives like seed. We sow with compassion, gratitude, strategy, sacrifice, and joy. And God brings the increase.
5 Marks of a Kingdom-Minded Church
Compassion That Moves Us
“There were no needy persons among them.” — Acts 4:34–35
“When the Samaritan saw him, he took pity on him.” — Luke 10:33
In the early church, compassion became the culture. They didn’t wait for someone else to meet the need—they became the answer to prayer. The same Spirit lives in us today.
When compassion hits your heart, don’t let it stop there. Compassion is heaven’s invitation to move—to give, to serve, to build. That’s why we pour into our city with food drives, back-to-school backpacks, diaper outreaches, and Christmas gifts for families in need.
We’ve discovered that compassion is contagious. When one person moves in love, it sparks faith in others to do the same.
Gratitude That Overflows
“A generous person will prosper; whoever refreshes others will be refreshed.” — Proverbs 11:25
When we remember what God has done, how He’s healed us, provided for us, forgiven us, and called us—we start living from overflow.
Like the leper in Luke 17 who came back to thank Jesus, we don’t just receive a blessing and move on; we return to say, “Thank You.” That’s what giving is—a way to say thank You to God for His grace. Gratitude transforms giving from an obligation into worship. It turns finances into faith and generosity into joy.
Vision That Thinks Kingdom
“Command them to do good, to be rich in good deeds, and to be generous and willing to share.” — 1 Timothy 6:18
When we think legacy, we’re not just talking about generosity for today. We’re talking about investing for eternity. Legacy isn’t about leaving something behind. It’s about living something bigger right now. It’s about dreaming forward.
That’s why we’re passionate about raising up leaders, planting churches, and sending out missionaries. From Dreamer’s Bible College to worship songs that are reaching people far beyond Austin, we are building what will last.
Every time you give, you’re not just meeting a need—you’re multiplying impact. You’re partnering with God to write stories that will still be told in heaven.
Sacrifice That Builds the Future
“Now finish the work, so that your eager willingness to do it may be matched by your completion of it.” — 2 Corinthians 8:11
“If you want to be perfect, go, sell your possessions and give to the poor.” — Matthew 19:21
Sacrifice isn’t about loss; it’s about trust. God multiplies what we release. When Lora and I sold the building God had provided for us so we could move to Austin and start Dreamer’s Church, we didn’t know what was ahead—but we knew Who was leading us. We had no regrets. Every time we said yes to God, He proved Himself faithful and blessed us beyond what we could have imagined.
That’s the story of the early church too. Barnabas sold his field and gave the money to the apostles, not because he had to, but because he wanted to be part of what God was doing. (Acts 4:36–37) Legacy is built one sacrifice at a time—when faith says, “God, I trust You with what’s in my hand.”
Generosity That Measures Differently
“They urgently pleaded with us for the privilege of sharing in this service to the Lord’s people.” — 2 Corinthians 8:4
“It is more blessed to give than to receive.” — Acts 20:35
“The kingdom of heaven is like treasure hidden in a field… in his joy, he went and sold all he had.” — Matthew 13:44
We’ve seen God multiply that spirit of generosity here at Dreamer’s Church. Every story of healing, every salvation, every life changed—those are the real numbers that matter. But when we look back over the past seven years, we can see the tangible impact of that legacy life.
Together over the last seven years at Dreamer's Church, we’ve given generously to three major areas:
- Missions: $52,204.73
- Church Planting: $80,837.89
- Outreach and Benevolence: $226,756.82
That’s $359,799.44 in Kingdom investment from Dreamer’s Church—above and beyond hosting the Sunday services, Youth night, DreamKids, Events, Small Groups, and the many other things we do weekly. Additionally, we have raised more than $1.1 million through our Legacy Fund to purchase a permanent home.
But the true measure isn’t the total; it’s the testimony. Each dollar represents souls reached, needs met, families restored, and dreams reborn.
The Promise of Legacy
“No one who has left home or brothers or sisters or fields for Me and the gospel will fail to receive a hundred times as much in this present age…” — Mark 10:29–30
Our legacy actions will be the focal point of our first face-to-face conversation with God.
“Well done, good and faithful servant.” — Matthew 25:23
That’s the power of a legacy-minded church. We live not for recognition but for reproduction. Not for what fades, but for what endures. Not for self, but for the Kingdom. This is our prayer as a church family: That we would be people of compassion, gratitude, vision, sacrifice, and generosity—people who live for legacy.
Our Commitment: One Step at a Time
Let’s keep stretching out in faith, giving with joy, and believing for the generations to come. Because when we live legacy-minded, heaven remembers.
