Encountering God at a Church in Austin, Texas near me

Have you ever wondered where you can truly encounter God? In the Old Testament, if someone wanted to meet with God, they had to go to a specific place, the Tabernacle in the wilderness or the Temple in Jerusalem. These were sacred spaces where heaven touched earth. But in the New Testament, something revolutionary happens: the sacred space shifts. It’s no longer about going to a building. It’s about becoming the place where God dwells.

That’s what we're exploring in Ephesians chapter 2 of our Mosaic of the Church series at Dreamer’s Church in Austin. We're looking at one of the most powerful images of the Church in the book of Ephesians: the Church as the Temple of God.

“In him the whole building is joined together and rises to become a holy temple in the Lord. And in him you too are being built together to become a dwelling in which God lives by his Spirit.”
- Ephesians 2:21–22

This is not just good theology, it’s good news. Because in a world where people are searching for meaning, identity, and spiritual connection, the Church is meant to be a living encounter with the presence of God.

From Tabernacle to Temple to You

All throughout Scripture, God has always longed to dwell with His people. In Exodus 25:8, God told Moses, “Have them make a sanctuary for me, and I will dwell among them.” This led to the construction of the Tabernacle—a mobile place of worship, rich with symbolism, where God’s presence rested among His people.

Later, Solomon’s Temple became the permanent dwelling place for God's presence in Israel. When it was dedicated, Scripture says, “The priests could not perform their service because of the cloud, for the glory of the Lord filled his temple” (1 Kings 8:11).
But even the most glorious temple built by human hands was only a shadow of what God ultimately desired. The Apostle Paul reminds us in Acts 17:24, “The God who made the world and everything in it is the Lord of heaven and earth and does not live in temples built by human hands.”

This shift becomes even clearer in 1 Corinthians 3:16:

“Don’t you know that you yourselves are God’s temple and that God’s Spirit dwells in your midst?”

We, the people of God, are now the temple. Every believer is a living stone in a spiritual house, and every local church is a gathering of those stones into something sacred. This is why Dreamer’s Church isn’t just about good music, sermons, or events. It’s about being a place where people in Austin can encounter God.

Why This Matters in Austin

Our city is full of people searching, many Googling phrases like “churches near me” or “how to find God.” But what if the Church wasn’t just something to find, but someone to become?

That’s what Paul was pointing to when he wrote to the believers in Ephesus, a city known for its massive Temple of Artemis, one of the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World. Yet Paul boldly declares that the true temple is no longer made of stone columns and marble floors. It’s made of people, ordinary people filled with extraordinary purpose.

“You are no longer foreigners and strangers, but fellow citizens with God’s people and also members of his household.”
- Ephesians 2:19

When we gather on Sundays, or in small groups throughout the week, we are creating sacred space. Not because of the building we’re in, but because of the presence of God within us. The Church is not a monument, it’s a meeting place between heaven and earth.

A Place of Encounter

At Dreamer’s Church, our heart is that people wouldn’t just attend services but would truly encounter God. Like Moses cried out in Exodus 33:15, “If your Presence does not go with us, do not send us up from here,” we believe that without His presence, we have nothing to offer. But when His Spirit fills our lives, everything changes.

If you’re in Austin and searching for a place to grow, to be known, and to meet with God—this is your invitation. You were created to be part of this Mosaic, to carry His presence into your everyday life, and to make a difference in this city.

Join us this Sunday at Dreamer’s Church. Come expecting to encounter God in a real way, and bring someone with you. There’s room in this mosaic for everyone.
